Good news for Faisalabad. Wi Tribe (Wi-Tribe) is now available in Faisalabad. It’s now in testing and not officially launched or you can say it pre launch or soft launch of the service. For the promotions of the brand, Wi-Tribe offers 1mbps Dsl broadband 4th generation (4g) for only Rs.500.
To get your new Wi-Tribe connection in Faisalabad, you need only valid copy of Computerized NIC with Rs 500 at Wi-Tribe office currently situated at Main Susan Road.
As i know, Wi-Tribe is using wateen wimax signal transmitters to transmit their signals for their subscribers. But a strange thing i notice that some location for both services (Wi-Tribe and Wateen wimax) have different signal strengths. in basement at peoples colony, Wateen device can’t get a single signal but at the same location under the basement Wi-Tribe synced with 4 out of 5 signal strength. its mean that Wi-Tribe in Faisalabad have great and strong signals against Wateen.

Link Dot Net : slow speed problem and its soloution

Let assume, you are the user of Link Dot Net Pakistan dsl subscriber like me and facing a lot of problems like poor customer support, disconnection of link, not syncing the line and slow speed internet browsing or slow reply from websites like facebook and Google.

You are right, all the problems exists and you are not the one who is facing the issue one of stated above or many of them but I was facing slow browsing and extremely slow response from websites.. And facing

Request time out

Error connection even on Google website. When I try to contact to costumer support team by calling on

111-600-111 and ask them regarding my problem they simple register my complaint and told me to wait until the team diagnose the issue. I call them at 00:24 AM. And definitely some one will response my complain in morning after 8 o clock.

I told them that I am facing this issue only on HTTP requests and when I try to download something from torrents, its works fine.

Its mean that there is no problem in my DSL line but something wrong in link dot net own system.

So I work on this problem till morning 6am and finally I found the solution with same line and set up. And now I am sharing the solution with you if you are facing the “request time out” error in Firefox, internet explorer and other browsers.

Solution:

Assume you are using Aztech Dsl modem ADSL 2+. Mostly provided by link dot net to their subscribers. And you are connection setting s are on PPPoE with user name and password.

Step 1. Simply delete the existing connection under from the DSL modem and save settings.

Step 2. Create the new connection with “Bridge” setting and provide the details as suggested by Link dot net team in VCI etc. and you will notice that there are no options to add the user name and password for login to network. Don’t worry; we will add the details after this setup. Save the settings and exit.

Step 3. Create a connection to connect the internet as we create in Dialup age. And during this process you need to chose the connection to connect the pppoe and when this setup ask for username and password then supply the DSL credentials. And save this connection.

That’s it.

Now simply restart the ADSL modem, and wait for sync the line. When light stable, go to network connections and chose the connection we previously create… click and dial.

After verifying the user name and password, you well be connected. And enjoy the full service at its best… and I hope you will enjoy this tutorial and I am sure that support team will not tell you in this way to solve the problem.

Pakistan is under attack of Flood, war on terror and suicide bombing etc. we have no control on Nature, we can’t stop the rain but can built the dams to store the water. We can control the water of flood with our sources. We can control Terrorism, suicide bombing in Pakistan, but HOW? This is the question..

Today I am here with an old topic that many times you see in news papers, TV news and mags etc, but still no control over it. If you read the title of my post, you are well known with it. Yes, BEGGERS.

The beggars…

Where from they came.

Who they are.

What are their activities?

Are they real beggar?

These are the questions that I want to ask you. May be also thinking about this. Some of terrorism events done in Pakistan, the terrorists were in form of beggars. I think.

But you can found beggars on different places around us like traffic signals, bus stops, hospitals, railway stations and even at our house gates.

Did you notice ever that these beggars even females are holding some bags, kids in their hand. What they are hiding from us? Is there something in those bags? I never see any of them where are they coming and where are they going after their DUTY hours.

It’s the local Govt. responsibility to check them, stop them and remove them. Who knows what things they are having under their dresses or in any thing they are holding. And may be some time, they do something that we are not expecting from them.

Below the pictures of some beggars of Faisalabad, I shoot the pics when I was waiting for the green signal at Main Gate Square in Faisalabad. While waiting, I was thinking about the security problems in Pakistan, then I point my camera to these beggars and shoot for my blog to show you what I am thinking about them.

Understanding and assessing the myriad of environmental problems and devising national strategies and methods for their control are one of the major international challenges of modern technological world. There is a global demand for pollution abatement which requires a sound technical knowledge of factors and processes including Earth and Agricultural Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, Medicine and Engineering, and the development of new disciplines like Environmental Toxicology and Risk Assessment. It requires to evolve and develop programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, involving elements and fundamental principles of Medicine, Engineering and Science with a practical approach to solve issues of the developing countries. Hence, degree programmes in Environmental Sciences will bridge the gap existing between disciplines. As a result of the implementation of Government’s policy on health, environment and controlling environmental pollution, there shall be a great demand for technical and consultative services. By introducing the discipline of Environmental Sciences, we shall be able to produce professionals capable of doing technical and consultative work related to environmental and natural history studies and would replace foreign consultants. The challenges of 21st century would require advance research and activities in the field of Environmental Sciences. It is therefore necessary to develop the research facilities in order to cope with future demands for quality production under WTO regime.
The Department of Environmental Sciences was established at GC University, Faisalabad in 2004. The faculty of the Department includes highly qualified teachers who are involved in several research projects. At present, the Department is offering several academic programmes in the subject of Environmental Sciences which include B.S. (4-Year), M.Sc. (2-Year), M.S. / M Phil. (2-Year) and Ph.D. Efforts are being made to further enhance research activities in the Department through various research projects financed by the Government and autonomous bodies e.g. PSF, HEC, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Science & Technology and Government of the Punjab etc. The Department also shares its research activities with other leading scientific institutions within the country and abroad through collaborative research programmes. Wateen Wimax No Login Required

Hello Faisalabad, what going on? i am fine and today i am here with interesting News for you related to Wateen Wimax interface. You will be surprised to know that Wateen wimax require no LOGIN required from now (June 27, 2010). Its means that we don’t need to enter User ID and password to internet.wateen.net to get access to internet, but now there is no need to sign in for the internet access. this is only for Faisalabad and in near future, this upgrade will be for all Pakistan. It’s also means that from now onward we cannot use our Friends wateen account to our wateen CPE devices we cannot borrow the user account from our friends... ;-)

there are many advantages and disadvantages from this action, for example before now we can easily stop our Minors to access of internet with our Login ID but now whenever we plug in the device to power outlet and its DONE and internet is ACTIVE and any one can use internet from our home even minors. so its not good upgrade from wateen.

Hello Faisalabad. How are you all? I am fine and hope you are all enjoying the LOAD SHEDDING in Pakistan as well as in Faisalabad. Today when I see the news on commercial news channel saying that Save Energy. And the suggestions about to save energy are to close the commercial markets at 9PM and close the educational institutes and Govt. offices twice a week. (Saturday and Sunday). What the wrong with Govt. of Pakistan? Why they don’t want to see us in world rank of technology, education or anything else that we can do. They asking us that we stop our business, stop studying and stop any thing that help us to survive in this critical situation. As you all may know that our textile industry is also on its dead level. But Govt. of Pakistan is not producing a single MW energy to supply us or even textile industry as well as educational institutes.
All are fine if they bound themselves in these conditions with us... but it’s not true. Today when i was on the way to my office, I see on the main jaranwala road near Abdullah Pur square all the street lights were ON. OH MY GOD. we are suffering about 5000 MW electrical short fall but these street lights are burning at the day time at about 1300 (PST). And I capture these street lights on my mobile phone camera and send these pictures to EXPRESS news channel to show off on their channel. Any way i am adding these pictures on my blog about Faisalabad, think what is happening with us...

hi fellows and dear readers..today on 23rd march 2009, ptcl broadband pakistan announce in the news papers and on its official website that all packages are upgraded to double speed, for example..normal dsl package was 512 kbps for Rs.1195 / month. and now this adsl broadband package is upgraded to 1 mb with out any extra cost. and after now there is no adsl connection of 512 mbps. all other braodband connections also upgraded to their double speeds as well.
its very very good offer and there is no other company in pakistan who offer this type of dsl connectivity.ptcl also announce that all new connection of pakistan braodbands are not starts from 1024 mbps in the same cost of 512 mbps.

Faisalabad is the Manchester of Pakistan and a business hub too, the main business of Faisalabad is textile and textile related products. And in Faisalabad there are most rich men of Pakistan lived and being very popular and rich men as well as politicians these personalities use their names to start any type of business and utilize their resources in legal and illegal ways and some times borrow the loans from some banks and then there is no way to refund these loans back to banks. And the result is bank crupt. And all Burdon is on the genral people of Pakistan in shape of taxes and bank charges etc.

I am explaining this all because in Faisalabad there was a public project start by local govt for cheap transportation. But this transportation is the big problem of the city and there is no concept of these types of buses travel in the city root.
This project was METRO MANTHAR buss service. And this project is finance by SMEDA.
Its 3 or 4 years before started plan and still running. In the start brand new busses was given to route and there is no regular maintenance of the busses and now these busses are so called BUSSES. Here is the picture of metro manthar bus which is stopped in main square of koh-e-noor and passengers of this bus is pushing to restart the bus because its fails to start by itself and this happened in Faisalabad every where…

Pearl continental hotel (aka: pc hotel) newly launched in Faisalabad, Pakistan.
The location of pc hotel Faisalabad is at east canal road, near zia town Abdullah house. This project is design by architect Sajjad Alam of Abdullah Associates. And main building of pearl continental hotel is Abdullah associates construction department. The pc hotel Faisalabad is consisting of approximately 7 stories and there are some commercial areas for sale where the buyers can make their shops, display centers and as they like.
The hotel have a restaurant, many star rated rooms, suite rooms and apartments for rental bases and as well as owner ships.
The management team consists of Mr. Sheikh Tanvir, mian naeem (emart) and some of their fellows. The project consultant by the client is Mr. Sajjad Alam.

metro shopping mall now starts its new bracnh in faisalabad, pakistan. its will start its working and open for public to shop there at 15 january 2009.
when i go out side today for my reguler work, i see banners, pole sighns and hording boards display that metro shopping mall grand opening on 15 january.. and they announced that metro shopping mall will give philips 29" colour tv costing to Rs 29000(aprox) only for 15995 on on First day of metro shopping mall's sales.

they also announced that they have goods about 20000 in one single roof for costumers to shop from there, its good for faisalabad people to shop at reasonable spot with eas of aproach and a HUGE parking place. its good to know that the prices of metro shopping mall items in faisal abad are noticeably low than normal prices as on Emart, Bambino and Family mart etc.

whats wrong with it?
there is some problems with metro shopping mall... that as i know that we cant shop from there with out membership card, if you have not a card of metro shopping mall faisalabad, its mean u cant shop there, and metro shopping mall cash and carry only accepts CASH payments, and you cant shop there with your credit cards of any types.

how does car financing work? Many questions like this, how does car financing works, dealer car financing, bank loan, car financing and somthing like this, and this is the same question like, how does car financing works?

And intresting thing is, the answer about tis question is "this is the monthly headache". Very funy.

This is the basic answer of this question is...

If u want to lease, or finance a car through bank of 10,000 $ and intrest rate is 15% and lease duration is 5 year, its mean that for 1 year intrest is 1500$ x 5 years=7500$ and divide it on 12month x 5 year= 60 months. So u wil payback loan of 17500$ in loan time.

The payback of loan, or car financing is monthly billing system..

Faculties

Faculty of Agriculture

The Faculty of Agriculture is the biggest faculty in the University both by infrastructure and the student’s strength. Academically it comprises six departments e.g. Agronomy, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Agricultural Entomology, Plant Pathology, Crop Physiology and Forestry, Wildlife & Range Management; two institutes, e.g. Institute of Soil & Environmental Sciences and Institute of Horticultural Sciences and five allied disciplines e.g. Agricultural Economics, Marketing & Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension, Animal Sciences and Institute of Food Science & Technology. The faculty imparts practical training to the students and enriches its research endeavors through Departmental Farms, Post-graduate Agricultural Research Station (PARS), Land Utilization Department, Murree/Charrapani Research Station, Agricultural Meteorology Cell, Advanced Computer Lab, Geographical Information System (GIS), Center of Agricultural Biochemistry and Biotechnology (CABB), Saline Agriculture Research Cell (SARC) and Plant Health Clinic which have been established in the faculty to carry out high-tech research work.

The faculty enjoys a profound interaction with farmers and other stakeholders and with its alumni through Farmers Syndicate Hall. It offers B.Sc. (Hons.) Agri. (four years) degree program and the students can tailor their degree by opting any of the major subjects listed above. All these disciplines have under- as well as post graduate programs except Crop Physiology which is allied with Agronomy for undergraduate program. The faculty has recently upgraded and transformed its instructional programs both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and in order to strengthen practical training of the students, an internship program has been included in the new scheme of studies. The faculty teaching staff is highly qualified and is trained afresh periodically through local and overseas training programs. Most of the teachers are recognized by Higher Education Commission to supervise Ph.D. scholars. Each faculty member has a dynamic research program oriented through one of the departmental research teams. Therefore, the Faculty of Agriculture remains a first choice of students for learning through out Pakistan. It, globally, has also been esteemed learning place for foreign/overseas students from all lingual and ethnic human groups. The faculty, over the time, has trained more than 11,000 undergraduate and 6000 postgraduate students in various disciplines of agriculture.

The faculty has highly structured establishment for its alumni which meets every year. At this vivid juncture the old-gold and the new faculty together review the progress and discuss the needs both in academics as well as in agriculture research in an atmosphere full of fragrance from the friendship.

Faculty of Veterinary Science

Faculty of Veterinary Science has been playing a significant role in flourishing the livestock and poultry production in the country since 1962. The Faculty has so far trained 1935 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) graduates, 1375 M. Sc. and 39 Ph.D.'s. The Faculty members have made significant contributions in their specific field of specialization and contributed to the advancement of basic and applied knowledge at the national and international level. Diagnostic laboratory and drugs analytical facilities have been rendered and has implemented artificial insemination technology package describing optimal conditions for collection, dilution, storage and use of the semen.

In milk producing animals mastitis has remained a major problem in the field. The introduction of very simple and "easy to do" "Surf Field Mastitis Test" by our scientists will help an early diagnosis of the disease by the farmers themselves for adopting the curative measures. University Veterinary Hospital and Animal Reproduction clinics are engaged in the treatment of animals and are dealing with gynaecological conditions. Our clinical scientists have initiated outreach programmes with ambulatory clinics to some villages. Research on medicinal plants by our pharmacologists has revealed a large number of indigenous herbs with remarkable antibiotic, antidiabetic , hepatoprotective and antiulcer activities. The geographical influences on the genetics of local animal/human population have also been observed. Moreover, the causative organism of Deg-Nala disease in buffaloes was isolated. Faculty has been able to develop vaccines for the prevention of diseases like hydropericardium syndrome and avian influenza.

Faculty of Sciences

The Faculty of sciences came into being in 1974 introduction to new education policy. Previously it was the Basic Sciences and Arts. There are nine departments in it and presently it is the 2nd biggest faculty of the University.

The Faculty of Sciences offers M.sc. and M.Phil, degrees in disciplines of Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics, Statistics, and Zoology & Fisheries. Ph.D. degree programs are also offered in disciplines of Botany, Biochemistry, Chemistry and Zoology & Fisheries. The Faculty is also offering MBA (Regular), MBA (Executive), MBIT and M.Com. degrees since 1998.

Forty-five research projects of multifarious nature have so far been successfully in the faculty. Currently twelve projects funded by different funding agencies are being executed. In 2002 , the Ministry of Science & Technology granted an extensive project worth Rs. 39.975 millions to strengthen laboratories and library facilities of the science departments of the faculty.

Faculty of Animal Husbandry

The Faculty of Animal Husbandry comprises three Departments, Viz. Animal Breeding and Genetics, Livestock Management and Poultry Husbandry. The Faculty offers 39 courses at undergraduate and 39 courses at postgraduate level along with several short courses. The number of undergraduate students in the faculty is 85 while the enrolment at postgraduate is 74 including 27 Ph.D. scholars. The Faculty has the mandate to modernize livestock and poultry farming and related activities to enhance productivity of food and fiber of animal origin and thus to bring more prosperity to the farmers and in turn to the nation. It is the pioneer institution that imparts Animal Husbandry education. The faculty has established an Animal Science Information Technology (ASIT) Laboratory for hand on training of the students and use of computers in various domains of teaching and research in the field of animal production.

The faculty members have published 10 books for the benefit of students, extension workers and the farming community.

Faculty of Agricultural Engineering & Technology

The Faculty of Agricultural Engineering & Technology was established in 1961 when the Punjab Agriculture College, Lyallpur was given the status of University of Agriculture, Lyallpur. The main objective of the Faculty was to train manpower to cater the growing needs of mechanized farming in the province of Punjab, Pakistan. this faculty is one of the pioneer faculty of its nature in whole Pakistan.

The Faculty is offering B.Sc. and M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees in Agri. Engineering & Food Technology while only M.Sc. in Fiber Technology.

Introduction:

Elementary, Secondary and college education except professional education.
Grant of scholarship.
Education of handicapped children, especially deaf, dumb, blind and with low vision.

Works And Services [Department]

Functions & Responsibilites:

Spatial planning and development
District roads and Buildings
Planning, designing, construction. Equipment maintenance and repairs of all government buildings residential including rest houses.
Evaluation fixation of rent control management lease and sale of government buildings.
Water supply and sanitary works pertaining to government buildings and government estates except provincial assets and those assigned under main heading S & GAD under S. No. 24 in the schedule – II of the Punjab Government Rules of Business, 1974.
Administration of West Pakistan Highway Ordinance, 1959 (amended) wherever it pertains to District.
Laying stands and specification for various styles of roads and bridges for the District.
Planning and designing roads and connected works for the District roads financed from District / provincial and / or central funds.
Construction, maintenance, repairs and improvement of roads, bridges, culverts, causeways, boat bridges and ancillary bridges for the works and services department financed from District /provincial and/or central funds.
Administration of roads, bridges and boat bridges toll collection and leases of land for filling/ service stations and access roads thereof on roads under the control of District.
District testing laboratories for works.
Execution of works on behalf of other agencies/departments as deposit works.
Preparation of architectural plans / drawing of buildings.
Service matters except those administration department.
Purchase of stores and capital goods for the District Government.
Environment
To assist provincial environment protection agency in discharge of its functions under the Pakistan Environmental protection Act, 1997.
To exercise the personal administration and financial management of the subordinate staff.
To regulate motor vehicles subject to the provisions of the Pakistan environmental protection act, 1997 and the rules and regulations made there under.
To ensure guide and assist the proponents of new projects in submission of Initial environmental examination / Environmental impact assessment to the DG Punjab for approval.
To ensure implementation of environmental protection and preservation measures in all development projects at the District level and to sensitise government agencies on environmental issues.
To identify the needs for legislation in various sectors of the environmental matters.
To encourage the formation and working of non-governmental organizations, to prevent and combat pollution and promote sustainable development.
To request the environmental magistrate on the environmental tribunal to take cognisance of and offence friable under the provisions of the PEPA, 1997.
To submit quarterly progress reports and consolidated annual report to the DG Punjab EPA.
To enlist the support of government departments at District level notable the education and health institute in campaigns for building public awareness.
To influence the working procedures and programmes of various agencies and departments in the District to support environmental protection programme and to incorporate environmental safeguards in their own systems.
To under take any other duties and functions as assigned by the DG Punjab environmental protection agency and / or provincial government.

Information Technology [Department]

Introduction:

The world has become a global village, just because of the information technology. This is one of the major achievements of the human being. IT has become vital need of this modern and progressive world. No one can even imagine about the success with out working on IT. Advantages of this field for an individual or for a country are countless. Managing offices and other management tasks are performed very easily with the help of IT. In Pakistan Government is taking keen interest to implement IT in the country. To achieve all this Government has established IT departments at District level, headed by Executive District Officer (IT). This department is committed to implement the Government’s policy with its pure nature with determination.

Functions & Responsibilites:

I.T. Promotion.
To support different sectors of District Government Faisalabad in designing and implementating database.
To arrange/coordinate the basic and advanced training courses for Government Employees of BS-5 and above (except teaching staff and police).
To connect all the departments of District Government with the help of computers, which is technically called Networking of the District (E-Government). This is an important initiative of the Government as given in the I.T. Policy and Action plan. This project will be initiate a province wise connectivity linking provincial government with district and tehsils.

Agriculture [Department]

Introduction:

Executive District Officer (Agriculture) is the head of this Department. Who coordinates and supervises all the activities of this Department.

Functions & Responsibilites:

To assist the District Coordination Officer (DCO) in formulation of the policy related to Agriculture.
To execute government policy on agriculture.
To control the Agriculture Group of City District Offices.
To be responsible for the efficient conduct of business assigned to each office of the Department.
To submit proposals for taxation and the bye-laws to the Zila Council through D.C.O. to generate the income and achieve targets etc.
To brief the D.C.O on the working of the each office of the Agriculture Department.
To bring to the attention of the DCO or other proper officer any discrepancy between orders or instructions and the rules, regulations and policy governing operations.
To monitor the effective working of each group of City District Offices.
To coordinate development and implementation of programme and annual plan for the Department for the Agriculture Sector.
Any other business assigned by the government.

Finance And Planning [Department]

Introduction:

Executive District Officer (Finance and Planning) is the head of this Department. Who coordinates and supervises all the activities of this Department.

Functions & Responsibilites:

Formulation, distribution and monitoring of District budget (current and development).
Examination and scrutiny of proposals for re appropriation and supplementary grant and their approval by the competent authority/ forum.
Financial management and control of offices of departments of the District Government.
Examination of schemes of new expenditures.
Functions of principal accounting officers and departmental accounting officers. Preparation, communication and execution of financial sanctions in accordance with the delegation of financial power rules.
Collection of provincial taxes and their immediate deposit into provincial treasury and submission of collection accounts to the provincial government.
Examination and advice on matters directly or indirectly affecting the District finances.
Maintenance of District, Tehsil and town provincial accounts and reconciliation.
Monitoring the ways and means positions/ accounts of the District, Tehsil and town government with the provincial finance department.
Liaison with the Pakistan Audit department for the disposal of audit observations. Matters regarding departmental accounts committee/public accounts committee business.
Service and administrative matters, having financial implications, of employees of the District Government in accordance with the rules and policies of the government.
Creation/ up gradation of posts, wither permanently or temporarily with the approval of the finance department.
Sanction of the provincial government for obtaining loans.
Adherence / implementation of schedule of rates prescribed by the provincial government.
Prudent management of assets and liabilities of District Government.
Sanctioning of loans to the Tehsil municipal administration/ union administrations from own resources.
Implementation of pay/ pension policy/ rules framed by the provincial government.
Purchase of stores and capital goods for department of the District Government, as prescribed under the purchase manual.
Approval of rate and running contracts.
Any other function as assigned to the District Government.

Revenue [Department]

Introduction:

Before the promolgation of Local Govt Ordinancr 2001 Deputy Comissioner was over all incharge of the District and had to perform multifarious duties in the capacity of Deputy Commissioner District Magistrate, and Collector of the District. After the seperation of judiciary and administration the judicial powers have been transferred to the judiciary. In the present system of Local Government Executive District Officer Revenue has been assigned important responsibilities of Land Revenue Estate, Consolidation, Colony Matters, Relief and Revenue collection.

Functions & Responsibilites:

Colonization of Government Lands
Subject to law and policy of the Government / Board of Revenue:
Lease of state land and nazul land.
Determining eligibility of lessees and other grants for grant of proprietary rights under specific terms and conditions and passing of orders accordingly.
Execution of deeds of conveyance regarding state land on behalf of the provincial government.
Operation of Killa gift fund.
Determination of right of return of land under the Thul Development Act, 1949 and passing of orders accordingly.
Allotment of state land under rural housing schemes.
Maintenance of record of all state land.
Maintenance of accounts in prescribed ledger of receipts on account of lease/ sale of state land.

Land Reforms

Subject to law and policy of the government / Punjab Land commission.
Determination of holdings of persons affected by ceiling fixed under land reforms and resumption of excess land in favor of provincial government
Payment of compensation for resumed land.

The population of Faisalabad was 2152401 in 1951, which had jumped to 5429547 during 1998, an increase of 150% in 47 years showing in average increase of 3.2 % per annum.Faisalabad city, which had a population 9171 in 1901 jumped 179000 in 1951, had further jumped to 2009000 during 1998 census. The total increase in 47 years is 1000%, which is 21.3 % per annum.

Geography

The total area of the District is of 58.56 square kilometer. It lies between longitude 73 o and 74 o East, latitude 30 o and 31.5 o north, at an elevation of 605 feet above sea level. There is no natural boundary between Faisalabad and the adjoining Districts. Faisalabad is bounded by Hafizabad and sheikhupura towards north and northeast, by sheikhupura, okara and sahiwal towards east and southeast, and by Jhang and Toba tek singh towards west and southwest. FDA’s notified controlled area is 1280 sq. km. River chenab flows about 30 km in the north west while river ravi meanders about 40 km off the city in the south east. Lower Chenab canal is the main source of irrigation water, which meets the requirements of 80% of cultivated land. The soil of Faisalabad comprises of alluvial deposits mixed with loess having calcareous characteristics. Climate

The climate of the district touches two extremes. The maximum temperature in summer reaches upto 50 °C (122°F). In winter, it may, at times. fall below freezing point. The mean maximum and minimum temperature in summer are 39 and 27 °C respectively and in winter, 21 and 6 °C respectively. The summer season starts from April and continues till October. May, June and July are the hottest months. The winter season, on the other hand, starts from November and continues till March. December, January and February are the coldest months.

Faisalabad district has made rapid strides in the field of industry after independence. It is now called the "Manchester of Asia" for its extensive development of textile industry.

A tiny town founded only to act as an agricultural market/mandi has now grown into a giant size metropolitan city, which enjoys third position in the country, as far as population and industrial growth is concerned.

The present Faisalabad District came into existence in 1904 as Lyallpur District. Prior to that it was a Tehsil of Jhang District. During the later part of the 19th century the then Government of India initiated a great system of artificial irrigation through construction of canals.

The area now comprising of Faisalabad District was part of three Districts via Gujranwala, Jhang and Sahiwal. This area was located between river Ravi and River Chenab and formed part of Rachna Doab. The name Lyallpur was given with a view to pay tribute to Sir James Lyall, Lt. Governor of Punjab, for his services rendered in colonization of the lower Chenab valley.

The design of the town was prepared by Captain Pophan Young C.I.E, a colonization officer. In the same year i.e. 1896 Lyallpur Tehsil was established by carring out area of Gujranwala, Jhang and Sahiwal and placed under the administrative control of District Jhang.

Punjab Medical College is located in Faisalabad, Pakistan on a 158-acre (0.64 km2) campus. It was established in 1973 - 1974.

Faisalabad is the third largest city in Pakistan with an estimated 2006 population of 2.6 million (city proper). The entire district had a population of about 5.4 million in 1998. It is an important industrial centre located in the Punjab province, west of Lahore. The city-district of Faisalabad is bound on the north by the districts of Gujranwala and Sheikhupura, on the east by Sahiwal, on the south by Toba Tek Singh and on the west by Jhang.

History

Faisalabd was once part of ancient district Jhang and Sandalbar, a 50-square kilometre part mainly consisted of thick forests and wild tribes. The vast tract from Shahdara to Shorekot, Sangla Hill to Toba Tek Singh, is traditionally called Sandalbar. It has been a land of freedom fighters and great lovers - famous among Sikhs and other faiths.The great freedom fighters, such as Bhagat Singh - came from Bange village, nine kilometres from Jaranwala. The legendary love hero, Mirza Jutt, was born in Moza Danabad, seven kilometres from Jaranwala.The present day city was founded by the British Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab, Sir Charles James Lyall for whom it was originally named Lyallpur. Prior to the British making the area into an urban center, it largely consisted of various villages. However, the construction of various canals allowed the area to be irrigated. After the founding of the city, people were invited to the city with promises of land if they were to work it. This allowed the city to grow rapidly.
The city of Lyallpur came into being in 1880 with the city centre designed by Captain Poham Young, to imitate the Union Flag with eight roads radiating from a large clock tower in the centre to eight separate bazaars.
In 1895, the rail link between Wazirabad and Lyallpur was completed. As the progress of colonisation stepped up Lyallpur was given the status of a tehsil of Jhang District and its administration carried on in tents on the old Theh (Mound) of Pucca Mari near Tariqabad. The majestic Clock Tower of Lyallpur was constructed out of the funds raised by the Sikh Zamindars who collected it at a rate of Rs. 18 per square of land. The fund thus raised was handed over to the Municipal Committee which undertook to complete the project.
In 1902, the population of the town had exceeded 4,000. A considerable number of houses and shops to cater to the ordinary needs of the population had constructed. In 1903, decision to have an agricultural college was made. In the very next year, 1904, the new district of Lyallpur was constituted comparing of Tehsils of Lyallpur, Samundri and Toba Tek Singh with a subtehsil at Jaranwala which later turned into a full fledged Tehsil. In 1906, the District Headquarters began to function at Lyallpur and all the bazars and mohallas within the bounds of circular road were nearing completion and city began to spread outside the circular road. The Town Committee which has come into being in 1904, was upgraded as Municipal Committee in 1909 and Deputy Commissioner was declared to be the lst Chairman. In 1916, the grain market saw its shops surging with customers. In the same year the civil Hospital was expanded. With the advent of the World War II, the political awakening sprinkled its influence over the city. Revolutionary meetings were held. Fiery speeches were made. Slogans were written on the walls.
In 1943, Mohammed Ali Jinnah came to Lyallpur and addressed a gathering of over 2 million in Dhobi Ghat Grounds. When Pakistan was accepted as an independent unit, the Muslims of Lyallpur held special prayers and distributed sweets and food among the poor on March 3, 1947.
The city grew into a strong industrial and agricultural centre and on independence of Pakistan it was a major urban area. After independence, the city of Lyallpur marched rapidly on the path of progress. The city which had so far been known for its grain market, became a great commercial and industrial centre. The population of the city which in 1901 hardly touched the figure of a few thousands soared up to millions. Medical and educational level was lifted up. In 1977, the name of the city was changed to Faisalabad, after the name of the late king of Saudi Arabia, Shah Faisal-bin-Abdul Aziz. In 1985, the city was upgraded as a division with the districts of Faisalabad, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh.

Development

Faisalabad has a strong industrial base including textiles, jewellery, home furniture, and pharmaceuticals, assisted by the expanding transport network which includes newly built motorways to Lahore and Rawalpindi. Airport

The Faisalabad International Airport is approximately ten kilometres from the city centre, and is a major transit point for exporting goods to other parts of Pakistan and abroad. City is also connected with Sargodha with a highway known as Sargodha-Faisalabad road. Furthermore, motorway M4 is also under construction which will connect Faisalabad with Multan.

The Central railway station is the main railway station built during the British reign around the nineteenth century. The station is used to take people to all parts of Pakistan from Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Quetta, Peshawar and many more cities and towns of Pakistan.

Introduction & History of Airport

In 1942 a bricked strip was prepared (5000’ x 100’). However PIAC started the domestic operation in 1958. In 1965 the strip was converted into a proper runway (dimension 9000’ x 100’ & surface bitumen) to accommodate Jet Aircraft Operation. In 1966-67 terminal building for 50 passengers and Fokker APRON was constructed. In 1972 a new parallel runway (dimensions 9000’ x 100’ surface rigid ) was constructed west of existing runway (which was in deteriorated state) to accommodate Boeing Aircraft Operation. In 1974 Jet Apron, Taxiway-B, ATC building Communication and Met Offices were constructed.

Executive Lounge for 20 Passengers and ILS were provided in 1985. In 1986 the Terminal building was extended to accommodate 150 plus passengers. In 1991 old runway (the one on right) was widened, strengthened and extended (dimensions 9270’ x 150’ surface bitumen) to accommodate Airbus Operation. In 1993 CIP Lounge was constructed and terminal building was extended to accommodate 200 plus passengers. In 1998 Hajj Operation was started from this Airport which was stopped in 2000. Later it was resumed via Karachi in 2004-2005.
